A note from
Betsy Hickok, writer,
poet and
singer, Iowa City
Fellow fans of CSPS,
Last year when I added Legion Arts to the
small list of organizations to which I contribute, I did so for one
reason: I don't want
CSPS to disappear. When the cry for funds went
out last season, I realized how much CSPS has fed my soul over the years.
Not only have I seen longtime favorites
—
people you'd be lucky to get
tickets for on the coasts, like John Gorka and
Dar Williams and the Roches. I've also been
introduced to performers like Ani DiFranco and the phenomenal band Paris
Combo. In fact, I've seen people so excited at the end of a concert (Laura
Love comes to mind) that I think if
we'd been asked us at that moment, we all
would have written checks then and there! But
what's most amazing is that the ticket prices
are so incredibly, ridiculously affordable. I figure if I make even one
gift of $35 or $50 each year, that's the price I
would pay for
one ticket at pretty much any other venue. So
for me, it's well worth the investment to keep a place so completely
unique and so completely dedicated to the arts available here in Iowa.
Let's all pitch in and make sure CSPS remains to light up its
little corner of Cedar Rapids!
Sincerely,
Betsy Hickok
