Iowa appearance | Four remarkable young talents
come together in this extraordinary holiday event.
Singer-songwriters Antje Duvekot, Anne Heaton, Meg Hutchinson and
Natalia Zukerman —
each of whom has played CSPS on her own —
return together with their new album and show, Winterbloom:
Holiday Traditions Rearranged.
The quartet's CSPS appearance represents
the first public performance of the new material, after which they'll take it to Chicago,
Mountain Stage, back to New England, and down the East Coast.
You can expect the four up-and-coming Boston-based artists to perform
new arrangements of traditional songs alongside their own originals, as well
as winter and holiday songs written exclusively for the tour. Celebrating
both tradition, the show will incorporate elements of the group's unique
backgrounds —
German, American, Jewish, Unitarian, Christian, Northeastern, Midwestern,
urban, rural, religious, secular and academic. Witty, intimate, thoughtful
and fun, the program is a perfect way to celebrate the season.
Antje Duvekot (AN-tyuh
DOO-va-kot) is a German-born, American-raised singer-songwriter who has
quickly risen to the top of the competitive Boston acoustic music scene.
Her newest release is The Near Demise of the High Wire Dancer,
produced by Richard Shindell, with poetic writing and atmospheric
arrangements that evoke Patty Griffin. It has been called one of the best
records of 2009.
Meg Hutchinson is a lyric-based, contemporary
acoustic songwriter whose influences include poet Mary Oliver and
performing songwriters David Gray, Patty Griffin, Greg Brown and Shawn
Colvin. Originally from rural western-most Massachusetts, Hutchinson is
now based in Boston.
Natalia Zuckerman’s songs display “the
come-hither sultriness of her slinky, earthy vocals” (Performing
Songwriter) along with elements of folk, jazz, blues and a soulful
something or other that you can’t quite put into words. “A noteworthy
folk-pop songstress and fleet-fingered guitarist, Natalia Zukerman weaves
clean and curvy country vocals into crisp folk-rock melodies,” said the
Boston Globe.
Anne Heaton is a Boston-based
singer-songwriter/piano-player who combines a healthy sense of New England
songwriter folk and college radio-ready verve with a lovely vocal timbre.
Also known for the infectious energy of her live performances, Heaton is
“a natural performer [with] a rich, soaring voice” (The Seattle Times).
Her latest recording, Blazing Red, was released this March.
