JEFFREY FOUCAULT
TERRI HENDRIX WITH LLOYD MAINES
Onstage, we're kicking off our 16th season
with two
great singer-songwriters who first met Iowa audiences at CSPS.
Jeffrey Foucault returns to Eastern Iowa for an evening of his pure,
visionary Americana poetry. A native Wisconsin troubadour with a soulful
voice and great stage presence, Jeffrey makes a musical home for
himself at the crossroads of love and lament. He specializes in country
rockers, dark narrative ballads, haunting character studies, and spare love
songs embellished with his richly toned fingerstyle guitar work. His
CSPS performance will feature songs from the 2006 CD, Ghost Repeater,
recorded in Iowa City and produced by Bo Ramsey. It's an album that
juxtaposes a personal narrative of hope and joy (Jeffrey recently got
married) against the wider, often darker story of the times. The Boston
Globe has praised Jeffrey's "rolling, reflective ballads that
shimmer with blue shade, everyday images, and the quiet strength of
hard-earned wisdom."
There’s nothing ordinary about San Antonio-born, San-Marcos-based Terri
Hendrix, who abandoned a college opera scholarship to milk goats for
guitar lessons. With influences ranging from Mississippi John Hurt and Sonny
Boy Williamson to Paul Simon and Ella Fitzgerald, she honed her chops on the
Texas songwriter circuit. Today she describes her unique stylistic mix of
folk, roots-pop, country and scat-jazz as being “from another planet."
Since 1997, Terri has worked and toured with producer and instrumentalist
Lloyd Maines (Joe Ely, Dixie Chicks). With Terri on guitar, harmonica and
mandolin, and Lloyd on guitar, mandolin, pedal steel and dobro, they've
played some of the most celebrated venues and festivals across the country
and Europe, including the Newport Folk Festival, Mountain Stage, Kerrville
and Austin City Limits.
With the homespun charm and humor that shine through her spirited live
performances, Terri’s shows attract both young and old, leaving all who
attend inspired. Take it from Griff Luneburg of Austin’s renowned Cactus
Cafe: “Terri is a truly captivating artist who will break your heart with
one song and leave her sold-out crowds smiling with the next. Her songs come
straight from the heart. The truest of Texas troubadours, she’s simply one
of the best — and I’ve seen ‘em all.”
