An indignant, snarling fireball, whose latest CD was recently released on the hip Righteous Babe label, Ed Hamell now makes his annual appearance at CSPS, where audiences have come to revel in his fast acoustic guitar riffs and warped rants and raves on American life.
A bad-ass, joke-telling singer/songwriter, Hamell On Trial defies all musical categories, though "punk acoustic” and “anti-folk” come pretty close. His live show amounts to a turbo-charged rollercoaster peopled by all manner of strange characters, political fools and other targets for his inimitable and witty spleen.
Scary and fun, with elements of Iggy Pop, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Marshall Mathers, Hamell is an utterly unique artist that Time Out has called “one of the great American music mavericks of our time.” With his battered 1937 small body Gibson, Hamell on Trial checks the pulse of the nation and gives it to us straight.
