BRAVE COMBO
Founded in Texas in 1979,
Brave Combo was initially pegged as a New Wave polka band —
a courageous if oxymoronic endeavor during that
particular rebirth of the cool.
A quarter century later, Brave Combo's music
still displays the same fascinating mix of the delightfully surreal,
juxtaposed with perfect sense and wisdom.
In recent years
they've
been lauded as everything from
a groundbreaking world
music act, to a hot jazz quintet, a rollicking rock 'n' roll bar band, a
Tex-Mex conjunto, a sizzling blues band, saucy cocktail combo,
deadly serious novelty act, a Latin orchestra, and one of America's premiere dance
bands par excellence.
They may in fact be America's best party band. Regardless, it's all in a day's work for Brave Combo: They've
marched in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, recorded with the late Tiny Tim,
played at David Byrne's wedding, appeared on The Simpsons, and twice
won the Grammy Award for Best Polka Album. Along the way the band has
managed to
charming countless
listeners, while winning over avid devotees
around
the world.
