SPT Theatre’s Writers’ Room series comes to CSPS Hall for a series of shows set around the theme “Games People Play.” Each show explores life’s twists and turns through the lens of popular board games.
The first, “Twister,” deals with what we all feel at the beginning of our lives: we are all Twisted around, trying to figure out what the hell is going on. Sometimes people get in the way of that; sometimes they help; sometimes we all crash down together trying to figure things out.
The Writers’ Room format features music interspersed with humorous and reflective stories performed by professional local actors. Performances feature Janelle Lauer, Jane Pini, Doug Elliott and Gerard Estella as well as material from writers Jason Alberty, Akwi Nji-Dawson, Dave Martino, Mary Sullivan and Adam Witte.
The Cedar Rapids-based SPT Theatre (Small Professional Theatre) has entertained area audiences with music, song, humor and wit since its establishment in 2006. SPT’s mission is to support, provide for and expand the artistic opportunities available to performers and arts patrons in the greater Cedar Rapids/Iowa City community. SPT strives to coordinate performances with existing organizations and create new opportunities for actors, musicians, writers and artists.
