We rarely present tribute shows at CSPS, but this UK production knocked us out. We think it might have the same effect on you.
Accompanied by a live string quartet, two exceptional singers, Dan Haynes and Pete Richards, who call themselves Bookends, perform the unforgettable music of Simon & Garfunkel in an event that’s been called “a stunning musical tribute … simply breathtaking … a masterpiece.”
Audiences will experience once again such hits as “The Sound of Silence”, “Mrs Robinson” and “The Boxer,” along with Bookends’ distinctive rendition of the classic “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” The production also reaches back to include such lesser-known folk gems as the haunting “Sparrow” and the wonderfully poetic “Bleecker Street,” alongside selections from the two artists’ solo careers. Without imitating the duo ― no wigs in this production! ― Hayes and Richards instead recreate the harmonies, timing and diction that mesmerized a generation.
Performed against a backdrop of documentary photos, video footage, and interviews with Simon and Garfunkel themselves, the six musicians onstage delicately recreate the unmistakable sound of the legendary folk-rock duo ― indeed, of a landmark era. Narration for the show was composed by Victoria Kingston, author of Simon and Garfunkel: The Definitive Biography. A hit with critics and fans alike, the show has toured extensively in UK and Ireland, including sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for three years running.
