Over the Rhine

  • Thu Oct 12 2017 - 7:00 pm • CSPS Hall
  • $18 advance | $22 door

Named for a tough but enduringly creative neighborhood north of downtown Cincinnati, Over the Rhine is the duo of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist. Their ethereal sounds ― dreamy, sweeping, highly literate and melancholy ― have drawn comparisons to the likes of Cowboy Junkies. Says Leslie Benson of the Dayton City Paper: “The music of Cincinnati-based folk and roots band Over the Rhine seeps into you with a rich hunger ― each note a separate, glimmering cloud-diamond.” USA Today has noted the group’s “mature, graceful, sad songs and intimate, soulful arrangements,” which “showcase Bergquist’s achingly beautiful voice,” while Newsday has described the music as “aggressively beautiful, like those ’60s protesters who confronted soldiers with flowers.” Someone else described OTR’s music as a mash-up of spirituality, whimsy and sensuality (to which the band responds “thank you, thank you, thank you”).
