New Year’s Eve Eve with Bob Dorr & The Blue Band

  • Sat Dec 30 2017 - 7:00 pm • CSPS Hall
  • $50 advance | $60 door

It hardly gets more traditional than this. Since 1981, Bob Dorr & The Blue Band has been playing some 100 dates a year, for what is now a 36-year existence. Along the way they’ve acquired a dedicated, multi-generational fan base, and a reputation as one of Iowa’s most revered, storied, and requested bands. Says Kansas City music writer Paul Taylor, “If you wanted to furnish your own nightclub, you would want The Blue Band. They are like one of those gleaming bright white appliances that you oohh and ahh over, and when you open the doors, all the best features you ever wanted come spilling out.” Mississippi Valley Blues Society Director Karen McFarland has called the group “the best damn rockin’ soul dance band in the heartland.” Originally called “Bobby’s Blue Band” (an obvious play on blues icon Bobby Blue Bland), The Blue Band is a 5-10 piece group whose sound might better be described as an amalgam of blues, soul, rockabilly, reggae, creole and rhythm. Their three-hour shows are legendary, moving from the classics to original tunes, to popular covers and requests. Following up on their Artisan’s Sanctuary blow-out on New Year’s Eve 2016, this special, evening-long event will feature the full Blue Band along with several spin-off ensembles, together with full catering by Lou Thompson of Village Meat Market & Café. Ticket price includes five bands, three-hour buffet, midnight champagne toast and cake. As 2017 marks the end of the Blue Band’s touring days, this is one party you won’t want to miss.
