Landfall Wednesday: Dakha Brakha

  • Wed Sep 25 2013 - 8:30 pm • CSPS Hall • $10 suggested donation

The Ukrainian “ethnic chaos” band Dakha Brakha creates a world of music that’s unexpectedly new. Accompanied by Arabic, Russian and Australian instruments, the quartet’s astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocals constitute a trans-national sound that’s rooted in Ukrainian culture.

The four-piece multi-singer band mixes Eastern European folk music with minimalism, hip-hop, trance, and acoustic trip-hop.

Meaning “give/take” in the old Ukrainian language, DakhaBrakha was forged in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art in the imagination of avant-garde theatre director Vladyslav Troitskyi.

10 pm -12 am Festival After Party at CSPS
